Baseball Has A Pitching Problem

#mlb #baseball

Today’s major league pitchers are throwing faster than ever before. Batters are striking out more than ever before. “Pitching wins championships.” This old baseball quote was true some one-hundred years ago when it was first spoken, and has not, and will not change.

What has changed however is the manner in which teams approach pitching. The methods used to scout, train, and utilize pitchers have shifted over the last two decades, drastically altering the game.

And the result is clear: baseball has a pitching problem.

  1. Thank's everyone for the support on the video! Means a lot to me. If you enjoyed it, please subscribe for future videos! This channel is just getting started. The storytelling and editing will only get better!

  2. How about a speed limit for pitching? Balls can’t be thrown over a certain speed limit; if they are, then the batter can go to first base. That way, pitchers will be trained to not go over the limit, there will be less injuries (especially for pitchers), and there can be more hits (because the balls won’t be thrown too fast) and therefore more enjoyable games to watch. I think that’s a win-win for everyone.

  3. I think we’ve reached the limits of what the human body can do for all but a very few people. Throwing overhand is already a pretty unnatural way to throw for human. Now add trying to throw 100 mph fastballs or breaking pitches with insane spin rate and you got the body breaking down

  4. pitchers are really pretty unbalanced. from a game theory perspective they have far too much agency. HBP needs to be at least a double, as a defender you should not have a guaranteed way to get your 2nd best overall option for any given at bat by exerting violence. the pitcher is the only player on the field that has access to violence as a tool to win the game.

  5. 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it [b]robbery to be equal with God, 7 but [c]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:5-11

  6. Pitching, defense, speed, and guys that can make contact and take pitches is what translates to championships. Most batters today are impatient hitters. They love to go up there and hack away. A good pitcher will take advantage of this by creating situations to make batters chase bad pitches.

  7. Injuries would be reduced if they bumped the mound up to 12 inches. Such a simple solution that baseball refuses to do.

  8. You're entire premise is false. Pitchers are slower than ever. They've merely changed how they clock pitches to create the illusion of more speed.

  9. Could you please do a Video comparing Baseball Pitching against the Bowling in cricket.

It would be such a cool video.

  10. Id love to see more small ball and higher scoring closer games! When the pitchers are so good they are unhittable i think its taking something away from the game in the form of action!

  11. Maybe bouncing the ball on ground like cricket will bring new excitement & increase unpredictability in game.
Then spinners with reverse swings etc will make pitcher concentrate more on quality of delivery than speed.

  12. I don't know much about baseball but to me i think the bat design should change again i don't know much about baseball
