Prior to the dive, difficulty arose with keeping the Titan horizontal. Descending through a fluid a craft cannot rely on free fall to arrive at its destination, but needs fins to control its direction of travel, which were lacking in the basic design. The point of failure was the brittle glue connection between the titanium cone and the carbon fibre hull. Even this expedition might have completed successfully. The Titanic was already in sight. However, the craft was descending faster than normal and an error in judgment resulted in the Titan touching the ocean floor sooner than expected and at an angle instead of landing flat on its platform. Even a relatively small jolt would have been sufficient for the epoxy to separate from the titanium ring. Epoxy glue clings tenaciously and it is almost impossible to separate two parts joined together with the application of heat, but when chilled near freezing the brittle substance cracks with ease from even a minor shock.
The junction of the cone to the hull should have been similar to that in metal plumbing pipe couplings with a convex rim of the cone pressing into a concave grove in the ring so that the more outside pressure that is exerted the tighter the seal, which would also withstand failure from the application of lateral forces. Bolts, in addition to glue. Primary failure was not due to the carbon fibre hull collapsing, but spread from the point of separation of the ring.
Stay away from the Titanic Wreck! It's just bad luck and you don't need that kind of Karma! God bless all the passengers that passed!
The owner said in a tv interview that safety is irrelevant is not a priority to this looney owner
Ah, I remember this. This was the DEI submarine mission complaining about how they don't need any white 50 year old men to get the job done. Bet one of those white 50 year old men with years of submarine experience would have been handy to have around.
330 yrds from the Titanic! omg the implosion could have damaged this precious ship!
I think, russian do this one, sure 100% information!!!
Don't go down into the ocean you dummies!
Stockton Rush would’ve been in jail for a long time if he didn’t die in that sub. He got off easy, he should’ve got to experience what his stupidity and recklessness caused.
Stockton Rush had a deathwish.
Private citizens that paid a private citizen to ride sitting on the floor of his submersible. Why we still.throwing this around. This is rich people exchanging money
They all need to be responsible. These people need to speak up and stop keeping their mouths shut for a paycheck. They are All Responsible
Criminal charges? Wow, very serious! I wonder against whom they will bring these charges.
The clowns screwed interior attachments into the HULL. Anyone with half a brain could have seen the writing on the wall for this doomed vessel.
It is insanity to go that deep in a home made submersible. On top of that, it is insanity to think that nothing happened to the submersible after successfully making it there & back. Absolutely no respect for sea pressure. Why does carbon fiber make any difference? It was over 2 miles down!
This kind of news will blow up the interlink.
In their own words, Fox News isn’t a news organization, it’s an entertainment network. I’ll look elsewhere for information on this topic.
