New Line Cinema’s original anime feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” returns audiences to the epic world brought to life in “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, based on the revered books by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Under the direction of award-winning filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama (the “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” and “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” TV series), the talented voice cast is led by Brian Cox (“Succession”) as Helm Hammerhand, the mighty King of Rohan; Gaia Wise (“A Walk in the Woods”) as his daughter Héra; and Luke Pasqualino (“Snowpiercer”) as Wulf. Miranda Otto, who delivered an unforgettable, award-winning performance in “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, reprises her role as Éowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan, who serves as the tale’s narrator. The voice ensemble also includes Lorraine Ashbourne (Netflix’s “Bridgerton”), Yazdan Qafouri (“I Came By”), Benjamin Wainwright (“World on Fire”), Laurence Ubong Williams (“Gateway”), Shaun Dooley (“The Witcher”), Michael Wildman (“Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”), Jude Akuwudike (“Beasts of No Nation”), Bilal Hasna (“Sparks”) and Janine Duvitski (“Benidorm”).
Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg— a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
With Kamiyama at the helm, the original feature is being produced by Oscar winner Philippa Boyens, from the screenwriting team behind “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” Trilogies, alongside Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou, who, in addition to their many separate animation projects, collaborated on the “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” series. The executive producers are Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, Sam Register, Carolyn Blackwood and Toby Emmerich. The screenplay is by Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews and Phoebe Gittins & Arty Papageorgiou, story by Addiss & Matthews and Boyens, based on characters created by J.R.R. Tolkien. The team of creative collaborators returning from “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy also includes Oscar winners Alan Lee and Richard Taylor, along with esteemed Tolkien illustrator John Howe.
A New Line Cinema Presentation, a Warner Bros. Animation / Sola Entertainment Production, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” will be distributed theatrically worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, released in cinemas nationwide on December 13, 2024, and internationally beginning 11 December 2024.
This anime director is so professional, i know. He chose the true method for this movie. Trust him.
I can’t wait for a movie/show that is about the war in arnor against the witch king of angmar
amk ya film yapsanız daha iyidi anime ne alaka
It was good, nothing groundbreaking and could have been worse, could have been rings of power
The best trailer so far and yet I'm still on the fence for this….Girl boss Hera is killing all my excitement for this.
The animation is not good…
Warner Brothers can keep their agenda nightmare to themselves. Fans won't see this as Tolkien or anime. I'd rather watch the animated Hobbit or any Studio Ghibli film.
so, you made this film about Hera, who Tolkien never named in the Appendices from which this story is pulled from, and instead of him being made into the terror that he was against the Dunlandings, you make it about his unnamed daughter and GirlBossed it up? thanks, but I'll stick with the books and not watch this garbage
Jeez, why does it have to look so bad.
I watched …. 5 dec in thailand , this movie AMAZING !!!
Came back from the cinema just now and I really enjoyed it! Helm was still the central driving force behind the narrative, Héra was not a mary sue, and the additions and changes were all very sensible and surprisingly few. The male characters are formidable and although is not PERFECT, is very good. The artstyle reminds me a lot of Tales from Earthsea while some outfits (specially Frealaf who was absolutely dashing as a hero) gave me a CLAMP vibe (all positives in my book <3) I will absolutely get this in bluray. Its a story driven by Helm's love for his children, and it was beautiful, nostalgic, and fun! Hearing Sir Christopher Lee's voice again was bittersweet, but it was a indeed a lovely movie.
Nothing at all like that abomination ROP. I will re-read the appendix now to see if I missed anything else, but the only thing I would have actually changed from the movie would be the manner of Wulf's death, but for the internal narrative it made sense so I don't hold it too much against the director. Solid my 5th favorite Tolkien inspired adaptation.
Hail King Wulf!
This is gonna be in theatres and not streaming. ok!? good luck
Winter is not the only thing that is going to bite hard.
Go to an empty, expensive theater for a CARTOON that'll be out on streaming very soon? Ha ha ha, that's almost funny…
Was very skeptic about this, because of Hera. But it really looks good know. I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes. I was back in the cinema 20 years ago, when the Rohirrim charged to death and ruin against the orcs in the battle of Minas Tirith.
That's what Tolkien is about. Not bringing back places and characters and obvious easter eggs. But bringing back feelings from our past. That's the spirit RoP doesn't have. I'm glad that the anime seems to have it and now looking forward to watching it next week.
Why can't it be a Western animation style? Why does it have to be cringey Japanese anime?
I don't remember the daughter of Helm Hammerhand being a warrior. I pray this hasn't swayed into wokness
I hope they don't disappoint
